What to expect?
Your child is at the center of everything we do, so we will customize the steps listed below as needed, providing each step as a stand-alone service or as part of a comprehensive support package.
Step 1: Consultation
Protea meets with parents, caregivers, and/or educators to talk through concerns and review any existing evaluations or interventions. Protea helps caregivers understand what the existing diagnoses and reports from school, therapists, or medical professionals are communicating about their child.
Step 2: Evaluation
In partnership with parents, Protea creates a plan to evaluate the child’s strengths and skill deficits, using research based tools and consulting with additional expert providers as appropriate.
Step 3: Observation
Protea collects additional data through observations (in homes, schools, and/or the community) to determine how the environment is impacting the child. This process usually takes two to three hours but could consist of observations across several days or settings.
Step 4: Plan of Action
Protea delivers a comprehensive report to caregivers summarizing all assessments, observations, and data collected. The report concludes with a plan of action for how best to support the child with recommendations for interventions, specific services and practitioners, caregiver training, and other environmental supports.
Step 5: Ongoing Support
Protea serves as a conduit between the child’s therapists and providers, teachers and school, and caregivers on an ongoing basis. Protea will review ETRs, IEPs, additional assessments, and reports with caregivers, work directly with outside providers, and advocate for necessary services and accommodations as needed.
